Returning players are running into the same problem on August 5: current 99 OVR lineups make older programs look disposable, but unfinished collections still hold useful progress. That is why searches for MLB The Show 26 Egg Hunt tasks and Luis Castillo have picked up again. Players want to know whether the Egg Hunt is worth the time and whether Castillo can still fill a role in a rotation, especially when every purchase of MLB The Show 26 Stubs needs to support a clear roster decision rather than an impulse upgrade.

1 The Real Value of the Egg Hunt

The Egg Hunt is no longer mainly about finding a lineup centerpiece. Its stronger value now comes from cards, packs, XP, and collection progress that can be earned while completing several modes. Jackson Merrill is still the most appealing direct reward, but the program makes more sense as a short account-development project than as an answer to an endgame roster problem.

The difference is important for players with limited time. If your lineup already has elite hitters, you should not force every Egg Hunt objective into separate games. Build one route that lets Conquest, Mini Seasons, and Diamond Quest produce progress at the same time.

◆ The program suits newer accounts that need cards and mode experience.

◆ Established teams should treat it as collection progress unless Merrill fills a specific position.

2 Start With the Tasks That Cannot Waste Your Time

The four Moments are the cleanest opening. They feature Tyler Rogers, Phil Rizzuto, Troy Tulowitzki, and Jackson Merrill, and completing them also opens the Orange Egg. This creates immediate progress without requiring a special squad or an online opponent.

After that, use the Egg Hunt Conquest map as the main work area. Tulowitzki, Nolan Arenado, Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez, and Dylan Carlson can cover the extra-base-hit assignments, while Clay Holmes, Kerry Wood, and A.J. Puk handle the pitching requirements.

1) Finish all four Moments and claim the Orange Egg.

2) Place the required hitters near the top of the Conquest lineup.

3) Use Holmes and Wood in separate games when victory credit feels uncertain.

4) Bring Puk in for a completed inning, then continue the map.

5) Capture territories and strongholds before leaving Conquest.

This approach matters because every ordinary plate appearance becomes a chance to advance a mission. In practice, it is much faster than switching lineups after every completed objective.

3 The Two Objectives That Need Their Own Plan

The number 7 or 28 PXP mission belongs in Mini Seasons, not Conquest. Fill as many lineup spots as possible with eligible players, and use a qualifying starting pitcher if one fits your rotation. The goal is not to find one perfect card; it is to make routine innings, plate appearances, and defensive actions contribute to the same total.

The Kyle home run is more specialized because it must occur in a Stadium Challenge, Showdown, or Sweeper game inside Diamond Quest. Use a power hitter whose first name is Kyle, wait for a pitch you can drive, and avoid turning the attempt into a desperate swing at everything near the zone.

◆ Mini Seasons is the better choice for steady PXP accumulation.

◆ Diamond Quest should be saved for after the fixed objectives are complete.

◆ The Pink and Purple Eggs depend on Epic rewards, so their timing is less predictable.

4 Are the Multiplayer Eggs Worth Chasing?

The Red Egg requires three stolen bases, while the Green Egg requires ten doubles in multiplayer. They are useful for reaching the full reward track, but they are not automatically necessary for the 100-point Jackson Merrill milestone.

Player PriorityBest RouteReason
New accountMoments, Conquest, Mini SeasonsReliable cards and broad progress
Collection-focused accountAll Eggs and Diamond QuestMore series depth and reward-path progress
Established competitive teamFixed missions firstStops low-value objectives from consuming the session
For online play, use speed at the top of the order for stolen bases and hitters with contact and gap power for doubles. Pure home-run swings can make the second objective slower because well-struck balls may clear the fence instead of stopping at second.

5 Where Luis Castillo Fits in the Current Rotation

Luis Castillo is a different kind of decision. His Vintage card is no longer competing with the best 99 OVR starters on raw rating, but his four-seam fastball, sinker, slider, and circle change still create useful speed separation. The card works best for players who pitch through sequencing rather than relying on one dominant offering.

Start with the sinker near the lower edge, show the four-seamer at a different height, and use the changeup below the zone once the opponent begins anticipating velocity. The slider becomes more effective when it follows inside fastballs instead of appearing on the same side of the plate every time.

Castillo's limitation is predictability. Experienced hitters will sit on repeated sinker-slider patterns, and his lower strikeout profile leaves less room for careless pitches. He is a practical rotation option for users who enjoy mixing speeds, but he is not a mandatory upgrade for a fully developed staff.

◆ Castillo fits control-minded players who value pitch movement and sequencing.

◆ He is less attractive if your rotation already contains several stronger right-handed starters.

6 The Best August Decision

Use the Egg Hunt when its tasks overlap with goals you already need to complete. Do not add Castillo simply because his name is receiving attention; add him when his innings support PXP, Conquest victories, or a themed roster.

Which Option Should Players Choose?

Most players should complete the Moments, the Conquest objectives, and the Mini Seasons PXP mission before considering multiplayer work. Newer accounts can push farther for collection value, while established teams should stop once the remaining rewards no longer justify the time. Luis Castillo is worth testing in a rotation built around pitch sequencing, but he should be judged by results rather than reputation. If you still need roster depth or collection pieces, cheap MLB The Show 26 Stubs can help you fill targeted gaps, but the smartest August progress still comes from choosing cards and tasks that serve more than one purpose.
